We tried Temanche (container bar) on a Saturday night and it was very busy with locals, there was about 30 young men and a few women with them, a German couple and ourselves. The locals were very polite and friendly, always a smile when eyes met. We had three bottles of Heinekin, one glass of red wine and two huge bowls of spaghetti in a tomato and basil sauce. Total price 1300cve, less than £10. On a hot evening try to get the tables nearest the pier as it tends to get a little more breeze there. _________________ Dave Clive |

Dave,
2006 Temanche was my favourite eating place. The owner is very friendly. The restaurant with the best view/location! It can get very lively. Yes, it is cheap, BUT tourist inflation has been very high, as is the case in any developing tourist destination. 2006 that would have been about 1,000CVE!
I still frequent the place, usually having fresh fish if I eat, however usually I visit in the day for a quick "cooler". He is still probably the cheapest on the island for a quick cerveja!
Andre
PS The owner is a splitting image of the younger Nelson Mandela! |

Yes he is a nice man, can't say I noticed the Nelson Mandela connection. There were two young men working the tables who I beleive are his sons that are very chatty, not that we understood much. One of the men sitting near us explained he was a fisherman and had a boat, and I think he was trying to tell us he would sell us some fish at a good price the next day. At the time we had no electric so no extractor fan until Elena had us reconnected first thing Monday morning. As you say it is a lovely setting and we will go there during daylight hours when we return hopefully in November.
All the best,
Dave. _________________ Dave Clive |

Trust me Dave, I studied the early political career on Nelson Mandela. I watched many a video. The resemblance to a younger Mandela, at about the time he married Winnie Mandela, is very strong!

With a cold cerveja, preferably a Sagres..... sometimes a cold Fanta Orange, like Fanta Orange should taste, with all the E numbers, not the bland stuff as in the UK! I love Fanta Orange in Cape Verde!

Andre,
here is a picture taken at Temanche a few hours before my flight home in September last year showing a couple of the volunteers from the Turtle Foundation enjoying a beer:
If anyone wants to join me for a beer at Temanche between 11th and 18th March you are most welcome. Just reply here.
Regards,
John |

There was a toilet if that is what you can call it. It was called URINOL, in an aluminium structure, no running water, it had the worst thinkable inside with a most disgusting smell. Looking south to Estoril it was on the left of the container! I am sure you smelt it out!

There was large hole in the ground being dug next to Temanche that had workmen in it everyday. They appreared to be putting in some sort of pipework so I guess that this could be new toilets??
For those who need reminding here is the view from Temanche:
